We stepped 20 metres underground into the subterranean limestone cellars at Champagne Jacquinot & Fils, tucked away at 36 rue Maurice Cerveaux in Épernay. Exploring this hidden corner of Épernay provides a rare behind-the-scenes look at a cellar production facility that preserves traditional champagne crafting.
Overhead lights illuminate long, arched stone tunnels where massive horizontal bottle stacks rest along the walls. Beside them, traditional wooden A-frame riddling racks hold dark rows of champagne bottles aging in the cool underground silence.

Beyond the maturation tunnels, guided cellar visits move through the estate's active working spaces to reveal the entire champagne crafting process alongside the winemakers. Bright yellow fermentation tanks connected with red hoses stand alongside large wooden aging barrels, offering a clear view of how the wine is crafted and matured before any bottle ever reaches a subterranean rack.
Further along the production floor, you get a direct view of the estate's machinery and bottle processing in action. Automated TDD Machines operate alongside a corking and capping station managed by a worker, positioned right next to bins overflowing with corks stamped with Champagne Jacquinot & Fils.
A Guided Tasting Grounded in Family Legacy
After exploring the underground cellars and production floors, the visit moves into an arched stone tasting room. Glass display cabinets and a framed vintage portrait photograph line the walls, grounding the estate's deep family legacy.
At a white tasting table, champagne is poured into four lined-up glasses. The pour showcases a side-by-side tasting of distinct cuvées, featuring the Private Cuvée Brut, Blanc de Noirs Brut, Blanc de Meuniers Brut, and a 2014 vintage champagne.
Having walked past the yellow fermentation vats, aging barrels, machinery, and dark limestone tunnels 20 metres below, tasting these four cuvées side by side carries genuine meaning. It connects the liquid in the glass directly to the craftsmanship, patience, and physical place that defined its production.
