Japanese Street Food
OKO OKO Japanese at Eat Street Brisbane
OKO OKO Japanese brings energetic Shinjuku street food charm to Eat Street Brisbane, anchored by a standout Wagyu curry pan that delivers crunch, cheese, and rich curry in every bite.

Pulling open a golden, deep-fried bun to reveal rich curry and melted cheese makes an immediate impression at OKO OKO Japanese. This Wagyu Kare Pan arrived hot at Eat Street in Brisbane, finished with a drizzle of white mayonnaise and a light sprinkle of green herbs. It is the kind of bite that instantly demands your full attention.
Inspired by the neon-lit atmosphere of Shinjuku, the new stall lands in the market precinct with an energetic Japanese street food setup. I dropped in during a launch evening, greeted by lit red lanterns, colourful art posters, and crowds gathering around the glowing stall front.
Is Oko Oko worth adding to your itinerary?
The stall design creates an immersive night-market scene. Bright poster art featuring Mount Fuji and anime icons lines the walls, while open flame gas heaters warm the outdoor seating area. Guests can ring a bell at a wooden wish-gong or tie pink wish papers onto cherry blossom frames, giving the space a playful, interactive edge.

A Standout Wagyu Curry Pan and Market Staples
The signature Wagyu Kare Pan easily anchors the menu. Wrapped in a crunchy, golden fried bread shell, the filling brings together Darling Downs Wagyu in a rich Japanese curry paired with melted yellow cheese. The combination delivers serious comfort food energy, balancing crunch and savoury spice in a single bite.
Beyond the headline curry bun, the stall turns out familiar Japanese comfort dishes directly from the counter. I tried the okonomiyaki served in takeaway cardboard boxes, topped with dark sauce, white mayonnaise, pickled ginger, seaweed, and dancing bonito flakes. Freshly wok-tossed yakisoba noodles also joined the spread, lifted with wooden forks alongside slices of carrot and cabbage.

Yellow iced cocktails served in clear cups with dried citrus wheels and fresh rosemary sprigs passed through the venue, while live taiko drummers performed under string lights during the launch event. While special performances like drumming may belong to launch nights, the vibrant food and glowing setup make OKO OKO a distinct addition to Eat Street.
