Settling onto the oceanfront open-air dining deck at Saltlick in Bali instantly sets a relaxed, welcoming rhythm for our afternoon. Two chilled happy hour cocktails rest on our wooden table, looking out toward the beach and incoming ocean waves under the bright Bali sunlight.
Before the sun begins its dip toward the horizon, the deck offers front-row seats over the coast. From our wooden table, we can watch beachgoers stroll along the sand and ocean waves roll in while taking in the open-air setting with a wall sign displaying the venue name, SALTLICK.

Warm Bread and House-Made Garlic Butter
To begin our afternoon, the kitchen pass displays freshly prepared bread rolls before a generous basket lands on our table. The warm bread arrives featuring a mix of rolls and sliced bread, served alongside small dark plates holding cone-shaped mounds of house-made butter.
Watching a butter knife slice smoothly into one of the cone-shaped butter mounds shows just how soft and spreadable it is. Starting with warm bread and house-made butter felt simple, yet ridiculously good, setting an easy rhythm for light snacking right by the water.
Among the house-made butter options brought to the table, the garlic butter was my personal favourite. The savoury garlic butter pairs beautifully with the warm sliced bread, making it a standout snack to enjoy while settling in before dinner.
