Yori Sunnybank Delivers Hearty Japanese Rice Bowls and Comfort Cream Udon

With generous portions and rich, comforting flavours, Yori in Sunnybank is a fantastic stop for Japanese rice bowls and creamy udon. The teriyaki chicken don is my top pick, but the entire spread makes sharing with friends easy and satisfying.

There is something about Japanese comfort food that always hits the spot, and stepping into Yori in Sunnybank delivered that exact warmth. Under the soft glow of hanging lanterns, the space feels cozy and casual, setting an easy tone for a lunch catch-up or a relaxed dinner.

We settled in at a table packed with colourful Japanese donburi bowls, creamy udon, and side dishes. From thin slices of pink roast beef lifted over rice to crisp pork katsu drenched in dark miso sauce, the spread immediately promises generous portions made for sharing.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Is Yori Sunnybank worth adding to your itinerary?

Beyond the rice bowls, the Mentaiko Potato Cream Udon adds a smooth contrast. Lifting the thick, chewy udon noodles drenched in velvety cream sauce gives a lush break from the stronger savoury profiles of the donburi.

Hearty Rice Bowls and Rich Miso Katsu

The donburi bowls take centre stage, with the Teriyaki Chicken Don standing out as my top pick. Glistening with glossy teriyaki sauce over rice, topped with scallions and sliced onions, it brings a classic sweet and savoury balance that feels instantly comforting.

We also ordered the Miso Katsu Don and the Roast Beef Don. Lifting a piece of pork katsu, the dark miso sauce proved rich and tasty, wrapping the crunchy pork cutlet in a deep savoury coat. The Eggplant & Mushroom Don expands the options with a hearty plant-focused alternative.

Velvety Cream Udon and Fresh Sides

Beyond the rice bowls, the Mentaiko Potato Cream Udon adds a smooth contrast. Lifting the thick, chewy udon noodles drenched in velvety cream sauce gives a lush break from the stronger savoury profiles of the donburi.

To complete the spread, we added the Japanese Potato Salad garnished with fresh lemon on a leaf-shaped plate, and popped open green cans of Grape Bong Bong. Taking a quick turn at the self-serve counter for pickled radish and scallions adds a crisp bite that ties the entire meal together.
