Iced Teas and Creamy Brews
I started with the drinks menu, which ranges from fruity cold teas to rich milk brews. Having not tried a grape tea before, the grape raindrop tea was my first pick. Sipping it outdoors in the plaza, it was genuinely refreshing, carrying a fruity sweetness that reminded me instantly of Grape Bong Bong.
For a richer option, the sea salt oolong milk tea balances creamy milk tea with a light salty touch, while the menu board features indulgent picks like the Ultra Taro drink for $12.80.
Flaky Crusts and Stamped Pastries
The pastry display cabinet is where traditional baking takes centre stage. We had to try one of the classic egg tarts, priced at $5.90, featuring glossy custard set inside a flaky pastry shell. The classic rose pastry also caught our eye, crafted into a round form stamped with 'CHARLEY'S ROSE' that opens to reveal a rich red paste filling.
The counter lineup offers plenty of variety, from textured pineapple pastries to jujube blossom pastries at $2.70 and hawthorn pastries at $2.80. There is also a reduced-sugar tongue-shaped pastry for $2.20, and we could not leave without selecting a black sesame cookie from the tray of traditional Chinese bakes priced between $1.80 and $1.90.
