Lifting a forkful of crispy chicken tossed with roasted cashews and vegetables immediately explains why I would come back to Danthai Kitchen and Bar in Coorparoo specifically for this dish. Set along Cavendish Road in Brisbane's inner east, the restaurant welcomes diners beneath glowing gold chandeliers, warm lighting, and colorful floral accents, establishing an inviting neighborhood backdrop for a big Thai feast.

When we sat down, our table filled rapidly with steaming shared platters, aromatic curry bowls, and tall glasses of iced drinks. For anyone seeking authentic Thai food in Brisbane without modest portions or timid seasoning, Danthai makes a compelling case for a dedicated suburban meal.

3 Mains That Can Comfortably Feed 6 People

The sheer generosity of the serving sizes at Danthai is one of its most striking features. We ordered three main courses, a full noodle dish, and a side of rice, assembling a feast that could easily feed five to six people when shared around the table. It offers genuine value for hungry groups who want to experience a wide cross-section of the menu without ordering an overwhelming number of plates.

Between sizzling hot skillets and deep curry bowls, the table setup naturally encourages sharing, dipping, and passing dishes back and forth. The vegetable pad see ew ($23.90) brought wide, tender flat rice noodles tossed through with greens, providing a silky, savoury noodle baseline that balanced the richer main courses around it.

Crispy Cashew Chicken and Sizzling Hot Beef

Among the central dishes, the superb cashew chicken ($29.90) proved to be an absolute highlight of the meal. Made with crunchy fried chicken pieces stir-fried alongside broccoli, red capsicum, water chestnuts, and roasted cashew nuts in a rich chilli jam base, it delivers fantastic crunch and balanced sweetness. Pairing it with a bowl of fluffy coconut rice ($6 each) decorated with edible flowers elevates every mouthful.

The spicy sizzling beef ($34) arrived at the table making a grand entrance on a piping hot cast-iron skillet, packed with bold spices and finished with fresh green coriander. Beside it, the lamb shank massaman ($36.90) featured slow-cooked tender meat that pulled away effortlessly from the bone, swimming in a rich, velvety coconut massaman curry sauce garnished with peanuts and fresh green apple slices, accompanied by warm roti bread for scooping up every last drop.

Iced Thai Drinks and Sweet Banana Roti

To cool down from the warmth and spice of the hot dishes, the drinks menu delivers classic sweet refreshment. Tall glasses of Thai milk tea ($8.90) and Thai milk coffee ($8.90) arrive packed with crushed ice and striped straws, offering a smooth, creamy sweetness that contrasts beautifully against the spicy main courses.

Saving room for dessert is essential here. The banana roti with condensed milk ($12) brings layered, golden-crisp roti pastry filled with warm cooked banana slices and generously drizzled with sweet condensed milk. Cutting through the crispy, warm layers on the plate provides a satisfying, sweet finish to a substantial meal.
