Bottomless long lunches often come with compromises on wine quality, but the Craggy Range Weekend Experience at Dark Shepherd flips that expectation. Set inside an intimate, dark and moody dining space at The Star Brisbane, this Friday to Sunday offering pairs a multi-course Mediterranean feast with refills of premium New Zealand wines.

We settled in on a Friday afternoon to explore the menu, which is built around sharing and Greek culinary traditions. What stood out early was how effortlessly the kitchen handled dietary needs. Since I do not eat seafood, they swapped out the standard seafood courses for non-seafood alternatives without missing a beat.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Is Dark Shepherd worth adding to your itinerary?

To round off the feast, the chef served slices of Biscoff cheesecake. Creamy and set on a spiced biscuit base, it ended the entire afternoon on a memorable high note.

A Tailored Mediterranean Feast

Our lunch opened with warm woodfired pillow bread sprinkled with thyme and olive oil, alongside crisp spanakopita. In place of the standard oysters, our table received seared halloumi drizzled in a sweet glaze, making for a rich start to the meal.

The seafood course substitutions brought succulent glazed lamb ribs and lemon-squeezed roast chicken to our spread. These joined the main showpiece, Arni Sto Fornu, featuring slow-roasted lamb, roast potatoes, silverbeet, and a refreshing Greek salad. Generous pours of Craggy Range Rosé, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc matched every course.
