Mooloolaba Challenge
Taking On Kenilworth Bakery's 1kg Long Boi Donut Challenge in Mooloolaba
The 1kg Long Boi donut at Kenilworth Bakery at The Wharf Mooloolaba makes for an entertaining challenge, though the overwhelming sweetness of its cream and custard filling is far better suited to group sharing than a solo attempt.

Deciding to celebrate my 31st birthday by eating a one-kilogram donut sounded like a brilliant idea right up until the sheer richness of the pastry set in. Standing at The Wharf Mooloolaba, I stepped up to Kenilworth Bakery to tackle their famous 1kg Long Boi donut challenge.
Served on paper lining inside an elongated cardboard tray alongside a printed Kenilworth Bakery bag, the Long Boi is quite a sight. The long pastry comes heavily piped with cream across the top and layered with a bright yellow custard filling running right through the center.
Is Kenilworth Coastal Bakery worth adding to your itinerary?
The real struggle wasn't the sheer density of the donut dough itself, but the intense sugar hit from the filling. Cream piped along the surface paired with rich yellow custard inside meant every single bite was sickeningly sweet.

A Four-Minute Quarter Tactic
Faced with a massive pastry, I decided my best shot was a methodical pace. I cut the Long Boi cleanly into four equal quarters, aiming to work through each section in structured four-minute intervals.
The first quarter went down easily enough in just four minutes, leaving me feeling optimistic about finishing the whole thing in under twenty minutes. But as I moved into the second quarter, the reality of the challenge began to take hold.
Defeated by Sweetness Overload
The real struggle wasn't the sheer density of the donut dough itself, but the intense sugar hit from the filling. Cream piped along the surface paired with rich yellow custard inside meant every single bite was sickeningly sweet.
Even spreading the topping around couldn't lessen the impact of the sweet custard hidden inside the dough. By twelve minutes in, feeling thoroughly nauseous during the second quarter, I had to call it.
The clock officially stopped at 12 minutes and 21 seconds, marking my first challenge defeat of the year. While tackling the 1kg Long Boi solo proved too much, bringing a few friends along to share it at The Wharf Mooloolaba is definitely the smarter way to enjoy it.
