Slacks Creek Sweets
Golden Spirals and Warm Milk at Kulcha Kulture
Freshly fried and soaked in sweet sugar syrup, these golden jalebi spirals deliver a satisfying crisp shell and gooey centre that make a trip to Slacks Creek well worth it.

Watching batter squeezed in tight, steady circular spirals directly into a large pan of bubbling hot oil is a hypnotic introduction to Kulcha Kulture in Slacks Creek. Located along Kingston Road, this local spot cooks the South Asian sweet fresh on site, squeezing flour batter into the pan before lifting the fried spirals out and submerging them straight into a pot of sweet sugar syrup.
Jalebi is fast becoming one of my favourite sweet treats, and seeing the entire cooking process unfold live makes it almost impossible not to order a plate the moment you walk past the storefront.
Is Kulcha Kulture worth adding to your itinerary?
While enjoying them freshly fried at the table is fantastic, I was also advised to take a few pieces home and try dunking them in milk. It sounds like a simple suggestion, but testing out the ritual back in my own kitchen added a fun second chapter to the meal.

- Freshly fried Jalebi
From Hot Fryer to Sticky Syrup
The real charm of trying jalebi here is watching the whole technique from start to finish. Batter is piped from a bottle in quick, circular motions into the bubbling oil, puffing up into crisp golden spirals as it fries. Once browned, a slotted skimmer scoops up the hot spirals and submerges them into a syrup bath, ensuring every curve absorbs that glossy glaze.
Served at the table alongside a small side container, the sweet treat offers a striking contrast of textures. Picking up a spiral shows off its shiny coating and light structure. Taking a bite delivers a noticeable crunch on the outside that yields to a sticky, gooey middle that is rich, sweet and utterly irresistible.
Testing the Milk Dunk Ritual
While enjoying them freshly fried at the table is fantastic, I was also advised to take a few pieces home and try dunking them in milk. It sounds like a simple suggestion, but testing out the ritual back in my own kitchen added a fun second chapter to the meal.
Lowering a golden piece into a glass of milk and giving it a gentle swirl softens the sugary exterior slightly while keeping that satisfying bite underneath. Whether you prefer a quick dip or a longer swirl, pairing cold milk with the warm, syrup-soaked centre creates a wonderful comfort food moment that makes buying a takeaway box mandatory.
