When we pushed through the swinging wooden doors into Moonshine Saloon on Gotha Street in Fortitude Valley, the ordinary Brisbane night vanished behind us. Stepping inside felt like walking onto a Wild West movie set, complete with weathered timber panelling, dim lighting, and decorated wooden shelves loaded with flour sacks, jars of beans, and garlic baskets.
This is far more than a standard bar stop or quiet drink in the Valley. The entire 1-hour and 45-minute cocktail experience is built around active roleplay, where everyone in the venue gets pulled into an interactive bootlegging story alongside live actors.

Stepping into Character and Saloon Chaos
The chaos starts the moment you get dressed up in Wild West gear and lean into an alter ego. I suited up in costume attire with a black cowboy hat, stepping into character as Cindy, a Texas cattle farmer with a soft spot for moonshine. Before long, I was sitting at an upright piano next to printed sheet music, taking in the roaring saloon atmosphere.
Across the room, costumed actors in western vests, long coats, and hats roam between tables, creating interactive drama and dodging the Sheriff. At one moment, an actor even cast a rope lasso around a guest's boots. Seated groups toast drinks over wooden tables covered in playing cards, dice, and open treasure chests overflowing with prop currency.
