I honestly was not expecting to find one of my favourite Thai dishes tucked inside a suburban shopping centre. Stepping past escalators and storefronts at Westfield Carindale, HAAD Thai quickly breaks the usual shopping-centre mould, serving creative food that feels like a destination meal in its own right.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Is Haad Thai worth adding to your itinerary?

Make sure you leave a little room for dessert before you go. Creamy coconut ice cream topped with fruit compote and a crunchy nut crumble brings a sweet, refreshing finish, accompanied by a tall glass of chilled iced Thai milk tea.

Rayong Heritage and Creative Fusion

The restaurant takes its name from the Thai word for beach, celebrating the head chef's hometown of Rayong, Thailand, where their family has been cooking for more than 30 years. That deep heritage forms the foundation here, balancing authentic Thai flavours with adventurous fusion ideas.

Inside, the dining room feels a world away from the shopping concourse. Warm timber tables, woven rattan chairs, and ambient lighting create a relaxed space where you can take a breather and settle in properly.

Standout Pasta and Shared Plates

The standout dish for me was easily the beef cheek, coconut, and peanut pasta. Slow-cooked, tender beef cheek comes folded through a creamy, massaman-inspired sauce over perfectly cooked linguine, delivering incredible comfort and rich Thai flavour in every forkful.

The table fills out with a vibrant spread of shared dishes. A colourful seafood Thai paella arrives loaded with prawns, mussels, squid, and lemon wedges, alongside crispy calamari, curry puffs, and tender chicken satay skewers finished with peanut sauce. Fresh options like san choy bow and coconut rice balance out spicy drunken noodles.

A Refreshing Finish

Make sure you leave a little room for dessert before you go. Creamy coconut ice cream topped with fruit compote and a crunchy nut crumble brings a sweet, refreshing finish, accompanied by a tall glass of chilled iced Thai milk tea.

If you are heading to Carindale, do not just rush through your shopping. Make time to sit down at HAAD Thai and let a meal turn a routine errand into something far more memorable.
