Holding a thick, split chicken schnitzel sandwich packed to the edges with crispy cutlets and greens against Sunny Side's bright yellow wall, I can see why East Brisbane is in for a treat. Sunny Side Sandwiches has opened its doors on Stanley Street, launching with a grand opening special featuring ten-dollar chicken schnitty sangers.
We dropped down to the new store to explore the opening line-up, taking a seat in the sunny outdoor area framed by bright yellow stools and umbrellas. Freshly baked bread sits on wire shelves behind the counter, setting the foundation for stacked sandwiches loaded with crispy cutlets and house fillings.

The classic chicken schnitty sandwich comes packed with thick crispy chicken cutlets, fresh lettuce, and sauce nestled between slices of soft, house-made bread. I also took on the spicy schnitty sandwich, which delivers that same satisfying crunch alongside a punchier kick of seasoning.
Alongside the sangers, a golden-brown hash brown makes for a crisp side, holding its own with a satisfying crunch.
Citrus-Zested Cinnamon Scrolls and Refreshing Drinks
Sweet bakery treats are a major draw here too. I could not resist getting my hands on the new cinnamon scroll, which comes iced with frosting and finished with fresh orange zest microplaned right over the top. The citrus lifts the rich, spiced swirl inside the soft pastry.
Paired with a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice over ice, the drink provides a bright, citrusy contrast to the hearty schnitzel sangers.
