Sunnybank Barbecue

Real Charcoal and House-Made Sides at Yido

With authentic charcoal smoke, scratch-made pickles and house-marinated meats, Yido elevates the all-you-can-eat barbecue format into a complete, high-quality dining experience.

Walking through the glass entrance doors of Yido, tucked away in Sunnybank, I was greeted by a dining room fitted with overhead exhaust pipes suspended above the tables, with options for seating indoors or at outdoor wooden tables under a covered patio.

Watching hot, glowing charcoal briquettes settle inside the table grill bowl makes it clear straight away that this is not your average Korean barbecue setup. By using live charcoal grills instead of electric elements, the heat gives the meat a deep, smoky flavour as pork belly, marbled beef, and squid sizzle across the metal wire mesh.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Is Yido Korean BBQ worth adding to your itinerary?

Selecting dishes from the grass-lined display fridges reveals an extensive table spread, including raw marbled beef, rolled pork belly, garlic rib fingers, soy-marinated prawns, and squid ready for the grill, alongside heated chafing dishes of braised pork belly and creamy corn.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Experience highlights

The details to look out for in Zen’s experience.

At a glance: the experience

  • All-you-can-eat barbecue spread including soy-marinated meats, pork belly, and prawns
  • Home-grown Korean lettuce and pickled radishes

Scratch-Made Sides and Two-Day Marinades

What sets Yido apart is its commitment to doing everything the traditional way, where every detail is crafted from scratch. House marinades take up to two days to prepare, while the self-serve area features handmade kimchi, warm kimchi stew steaming in cooker pots, pickled onions, and pickled chilli.

At the table, small baskets hold fresh green and red home-grown Korean lettuce leaves ready for wrapping. I paired mine with slices of bright pink pickled radish, which turned out to be the best pickled radishes I have had.

Grilling at the Table

Selecting dishes from the grass-lined display fridges reveals an extensive table spread, including raw marbled beef, rolled pork belly, garlic rib fingers, soy-marinated prawns, and squid ready for the grill, alongside heated chafing dishes of braised pork belly and creamy corn.

Trimming raw marbled beef with scissors before flipping slices onto the hot charcoal grid keeps the meal interactive. Gathering a slice of grilled meat, spicy kimchi, and bright pink radish inside a crisp leaf of home-grown lettuce makes for a complete experience that goes far beyond a standard dinner.
