FEASTING TOP FIVE GUIDE · THE BALI EDIT

Five Bali meals that shaped my 2026 trip

Five restaurants from Zen’s 2026 Bali travels, woven into one food-led journey through Seminyak, Sanur and Ubud.

By Zen · Five places, one story

In Bali, lunch has a way of becoming the day. Dinner becomes the reason to cross the island, and a restaurant view can rearrange an itinerary that looked perfectly organised that morning.

These five meals shaped my 2026 trips through Seminyak, Sanur and Ubud. They were not chosen to represent every kind of Bali dining. They are here because each one changed the pace of the trip: a serious steak, a floating sushi river, Thai food built for sharing, a jungle lunch and Indonesian dining with a sense of occasion.

01 · Seminyak, Bali

Boy’N’Cow

Boy’N’Cow made Seminyak feel indulgent from the first serious plate. The tomahawk was not merely dinner; it was the centre of gravity, with bone marrow, burrata and sides orbiting around it.

Watching a massive steak sizzle over open flames behind the scenes in Seminyak sets an immediate benchmark for what a tropical dining outing can be. At Boy 'N' Cow in Seminyak, Bali, the energy around the open grill signals that beef is taken very seriously. We stepped behind the scenes to see the showstopper in motion: a 1kg Australian Stockyard Gold Tomahawk, dry-aged in-house for a minimum of 28 days before hitting the fiery grate.

Boy 'N' Cow delivers an outstanding steakhouse experience in Seminyak, combining dry-aged Australian cuts, indulgent sides, and handcrafted drinks inside a buzzing two-tier dining space.

What I’d start with: 1kg Australian Stockyard Gold Tomahawk dry-aged for 28 days, Roasted bone marrow, Burrata salad with tomatoes and bread.

02 · Sanur, Bali

Tsune Bali Sanur

Tsune changed the mood in Sanur. Sushi travelling along a floating river could have been only a novelty, but the broader Japanese menu gave the experience enough substance to carry a full dinner.

Wooden boats carrying sushi drift through a gentle mist along a water stream at Tsune Japanese Restaurant in Sanur. Rather than watching a typical conveyor belt loop around the room, we watched our dishes float straight down the river to the dining counter.

Tsune Japanese Restaurant gives Sanur an interactive dining spot where floating sushi boats on a misty water stream, fiery kitchen mains, and creative cocktails come together.

What I’d start with: Crispy Eggplant, Crunchy Tuna Roll, Tamago Sushi Mentai.

03 · Sanur, Bali

Paed Thai Sanur

Paed Thai was the feast of the trip: bright salads, comforting soup, grilled dishes and mango sticky rice, with the papaya salad made in front of us becoming the moment everyone remembered.

When our pineapple fried rice arrived scooped into a carved pineapple boat, generously garnished with cashews, raisins, herbs, and fresh lime, it set a playful tone for the meal. I held the heavy fruit boat up for a closer look before we dug in.

Paed Thai delivers an engaging dining spot in Sanur, elevated by customizable tableside mortar-and-pestle salad prep and eye-catching family-style presentations.

What I’d start with: Papaya Salad, Mango Salad, Tom Kha Gai Hot Pot.

04 · Ubud, Bali

Habitat Bistro Ubud

Habitat Bistro slowed everything down. Jungle views, an open-air room and a grazing plate made lunch feel less like a booking and more like permission to stop moving for an afternoon.

Swapping noisy beach club crowds for deep jungle calm turns out to be one of the best choices you can make in Ubud. Looking out across the infinity pool at Habitat Bistro, the view stretches across a dense green canopy and tall palm trees, setting an immediately peaceful scene where an afternoon effortlessly slows right down.

Habitat Bistro provides a quiet alternative to busy beach clubs, combining sweeping jungle canopy views and an infinity pool with satisfying grazing platters and classic burgers.

What I’d start with: Grazing platter.

05 · Bali, Indonesia

Merah Putih

Merah Putih closed the circle with Indonesian food presented in a room that understands occasion. It was a reminder that a Bali food trip should not only chase novelty; it should also make time for the cooking that belongs to the island.

Stepping into Merah Putih feels less like entering a standard restaurant and more like walking into a luxury tropical greenhouse. Tall indoor palm trees stretch toward soaring glass ceilings, flanked by glass walls and lush greenery that immediately set the scene for a special night out in Bali.

Merah Putih delivers a memorable Bali dinner experience, combining spectacular tropical architecture, friendly service that takes dietary needs seriously, and a colourful, flavourful menu.

What I’d start with: Cocktails featuring traditional and unique flavour combinations..

The best Bali itineraries leave breathing room around the table. These five restaurants were different in style, location and ambition, but each made us pause. That is usually the sign of a meal worth building a day around.
