Fatcow on James: Indulgent Steaks, Sensational Cocktails, and a Double-Meat Feast
Fatcow on James delivers a buzzing Fortitude Valley experience where doubling up on meat courses feels entirely right, anchored by crafted cocktails and top-notch service.

Finding a personalised "Happy Birthday! from the Fatcow team" card tucked inside a glass on our table set a celebratory tone the moment we sat down at Fatcow on James. Located along James Street in Fortitude Valley, the dining room carries a buzzing atmosphere from the start, making it feel like precisely the right venue for an uninhibited evening.
What blew my mind right away was the cocktail lineup. Set beside the brown leather menu embossed with the Fatcow name, these handcrafted drinks were a sensational highlight of the night, served while top-notch service kept the table relaxed and well looked after.
Is Fatcow on James St worth adding to your itinerary?
That double-meat commitment carried straight into the main course spread. Our table filled with a broad white platter of tender sliced steak, flanked by sides of creamy macaroni and cheese, golden french fries, and green beans. There was even a playful touch as dark gravy was poured from a small animal-shaped creamer directly into a hollowed bread roll, alongside dishes of roasted poultry and a melted cheeseburger set against a backdrop of glass wine cabinets.

Doubling Down on the Entrées
When you sit down at a steakhouse that celebrates serious cuts, holding back on ordering feels like a missed opportunity. We decided to double up on meat across both our entrées and mains, starting with the Brülée Ritz and the Fatcow Tartare. The tartare was an immediate standout on its dark plate, pairing raw beef tenderloin, mustard, cured egg, and a light potato crisp for a bite that balanced rich flavour with distinct crunch.
