We set out for Massimo Restaurant & Bar with a single goal: to taste our way through their newest dessert menu. Sitting right on the Brisbane River under yellow striped umbrellas, the venue brings a buzzing, lively atmosphere that makes it far too easy to turn a quick sweet stop into a full lunch.

Before we even picked up a dessert spoon, the surrounding energy and savoury options on the table convinced us to build a full meal around what was originally meant to be a sweet finale.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Is Massimo Restaurant & Bar worth adding to your itinerary?

Massimo bridges the gap between a vibrant waterfront atmosphere and a kitchen that treats its desserts as a primary event. Whether you arrive specifically for the sweet menu or stay for cheese-laden pasta and parmigiana, this Brisbane City spot earns its place on any dining shortlist.

Savoury Plates to Start the Table

Lunch began with rich, comforting Italian classics that proved entirely worth the delay. The baked eggplant parmigiana arrived hot in a skillet, loaded with cheese that stretched with every forkful. It stood out immediately as a highlight of the savoury spread.

Beside the parmigiana, the fried lasagne bites were just as satisfying. Crisp on the outside with a rich filling of minced meat and cheese inside, they were the kind of dish where a single bite makes you want an entire plate to yourself.

The New Desserts Take Centre Stage

When it was finally time for the reason for our visit, the new dessert lineup delivered completely. The standout of the day was the tiramisu. Presented as a round, soft cake dusted in cocoa, it hit the mark with a subtle coffee flavour, creamy layers, and a delicate texture that melted easily.

The rest of the sweet spread held its ground just as well on our terrazzo table. A light, refreshing buttermilk panna cotta came paired with spiced fruit and a crunchy biscotto, while the torta cioccolato gave chocolate lovers a rich finish topped with hazelnut cream and ice cream.
