A bright blue glass garnished with a lime wheel sets an immediate playful rhythm for the night. At Hasu Dining Bar along Grey Street in South Brisbane, dinner begins at the bar beneath glowing hanging floral lights, where refreshing sips set the tone for a casual modern Asian feast.

We kicked off with the signature Seiryu cocktail, a vibrant mix of sake, blue curaçao, and lemon juice, alongside a crisp Japanese lemonade. That balance of sweet and sour proved to be just the right palate cleanser before the dishes started hitting the table.

Steamed Dumplings and Smoky Stir-Fries

The food kicked off with a rectangular plate of three steamed dim sum dumplings, light and juicy with delicate wrappers resting over fresh greens. They made a gentle opening before the bolder wok dishes took over the spread.

The undisputed star of the table was the Char Kway Teow, stir-fried flat rice noodles tossed with chicken, bean sprouts, and tender spring onions. Bursting with rich wok depth, it drew immediate praise across the table as the hero of the evening, while crispy honey chicken tossed in sesame seeds added a sweet-and-sticky crunch.
