Il Verde's monthly Cheese Wheel Night is a fun, indulgence-filled mid-week dining event that cheese lovers should put straight onto their local hit list.

Watching cooked spaghetti tossed directly inside a giant wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano tableside is a genuine spectacle for cheese lovers. At Il Verde in Bowen Hills, Cheese Wheel Night takes place on the first Wednesday of every month, turning a regular mid-week dinner into a dedicated feast.

For $65 per person, the three-course set menu includes a house beverage, giving the table a relaxed rhythm from the moment you sit down. Settling into the warm dining room among filled tables and booths, we toasted with glasses of house wine as our evening got underway.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Is Il Verde worth adding to your itinerary?

Saving room for dessert is essential here. We finished with a silky vanilla panna cotta that arrived with just the right amount of jiggle, topped with toasted coconut, a citrus slice, fresh mint, and passionfruit sauce to balance the richness of the night.

At a glance: what we ordered

  • Three-course Cheese Wheel Night set menu ($65pp) including house beverage, Truffle Polenta & Signature Focaccia, Spaghetti Quattro Formaggi, and Panna Cotta

Starting with Truffle Polenta and Focaccia

Our meal began with signature focaccia bread and seasoned truffle polenta sticks served together on a black plate. Pouring syrup over the crisp polenta gave each piece a savoury finish that set a comforting tone before the cheese wheel arrived.

The Tableside Cheese Wheel Spectacle

The main course brings the real theater with Spaghetti Quattro Formaggi prepared right next to your table. Staff set up a portable stove with a steaming pot of cheese sauce right alongside the hollowed Parmigiano Reggiano wheel.

Using tongs, staff lift hot spaghetti into the center of the cheese wheel, churning and tossing it live so every strand becomes coated in rich melted cheese. Plated up with crispy porchetta strips, fresh herbs, and a light pour of oil, I found it a deeply satisfying bowl of pasta.
