Starting a pasta meal with sweet dessert gnocchi topped with fresh strawberry slices and chocolate drizzle flips the usual dining order in a fun, unexpected way. At It's Pasta on Melbourne Street in South Brisbane, you can make your own rules from the second you walk through the door and see the 'Your Bowl Your Way' sign hanging above the counter.
The main dining setup revolves around self-service touchscreen kiosks running a 'Make It Your Way' menu system. Base pasta orders start at $16.90, allowing you to choose from rows of dry pasta shapes displayed in clear glass jars around the kitchen area, pick your favourite sauce, and stack on extra add-ons like bacon for $4.00, chicken, and extra cheese.

Custom Campanelle, Cheesy Focaccia, and Savoury Gnocchi
I assembled a custom bowl of Duetto pasta, selecting ruffled campanelle pasta as my base before topping it with chicken, bacon, and melted cheese. Mixing everything together right at the table brings the whole dish together into a comforting bowl where every forkful catches plenty of sauce and savoury toppings. To accompany the pasta, we shared melted cheesy garlic focaccia, pulling apart warm slices straight from the table spread.
We also tried the fried gnocchi, which arrived as crispy golden bites that did not disappoint. The kitchen serves these crunchy bites with various topping combinations, ranging from classic parmesan and fresh rocket leaves to chilli con carne, as well as a savoury tartufo option that turned out to be an underrated highlight of our visit.
