Holding a single continuous golden spiral potato skewer stretched out on its stick, it is immediately clear that $95 goes a long way at Miso Hungry in Stafford Heights. I am Zen, and when one humble potato gets transformed into an oversized, crunchy tornado before landing on a table packed with sushi, rice bowls, and soup, you know you are in for a serious spread. Feeding four people on Brisbane's north side without sacrificing variety or freshness can feel like a challenge, but this generous Family Bundle makes an impression from the moment the dishes arrive.

Set within the shopping complex along Rode Road, Miso Hungry brings Japanese fast-casual favourites straight to the table in a space designed for easy group dining. Stepping inside, the layout is built to handle an impressive feast, which proved essential as dish after dish from our $95 Family Bundle filled the wooden surface. From piping hot rice bowls to hand-rolled aburi sushi and sweet extra treats, it is a setup made for effortless sharing.

Highlights from Zen’s visit.

At a glance: what we ordered

  • $95 Family Bundle
  • Karaage chicken rice bowl
  • Honey chilli chicken rice bowl
  • Potato tornadoes
  • Mixed aburi sushi
  • Teriyaki chicken sushi roll
  • Tempura veggies sushi roll
  • Red bean taiyaki waffle

A table-filling feast designed for sharing

The central pull of the $95 Family Bundle is the sheer volume and colour that lands on the table all at once. The spread arrives with two full rice bowls, four individual soups split between traditional miso and warming udon, a fresh chicken salad, a chicken double dish, a plate of mini chicken rolls, and six pieces of mixed aburi sushi served on patterned saucers. Dipping a piece of aburi sushi into soy sauce or lifting a sauce-drizzled roll with chopsticks reveals just how much variety is packed into a single order.

Among the hot mains, the karaage chicken rice bowl was a clear highlight. Loaded with golden, bite-sized pieces of fried chicken over warm rice, topped with a generous drizzle of mayonnaise and savoury sauce alongside crisp salad greens, every mouthful was crispy, fresh, and remarkably filling. Alongside it, the honey chilli chicken bowl provided a sweet and savoury glaze that complemented the crispy bites on the table.

Golden potato tornadoes and sweet red bean waffles

Beyond the rice bowls and sushi platters, the smaller dishes bring genuine street-food playfulness to the meal. The two spiral potato tornadoes included in the bundle are an instant centrepiece, spiralled along the entire length of the stick so every ridge holds its crunchy texture. Holding up the skewer before diving in, it is the kind of dish that makes you question whether anyone at the table is truly willing to share their potato.

To round off the meal with a sweet finish, we added a fish-shaped red bean taiyaki waffle to the order. Pulling the soft golden waffle apart reveals a rich, dark red bean paste filling inside, offering a comforting sweet treat to end the savoury feast. We also picked up extra hand-rolled sushi, including teriyaki chicken and tempura veggie rolls, showcasing the store's freshly rolled daily menu. For drinks, red cans of Pokka Fuji Apple Sparklin and Lychee Tea added a refreshing fruit finish on the side.
