Rich Flavour Without the Fire at Shere Panjab Indian

Shere Panjab Indian proves that rich, comforting Indian food does not need blistering chilli to stand out, offering a memorable Surfers Paradise spread led by velvety mango curry and cheesy garlic naan.

A glass of chilled mango lassi is quickly becoming one of my favourite starts to a meal, and the smooth, creamy pour at Shere Panjab Indian Restaurant set a welcoming tone right away. Tucked along Thomas Drive in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, this dining room feels relaxed and unpretentious with its simple wooden dining tables and patterned wallpaper.

I am not one for heavy chilli heat, so finding a kitchen that builds huge flavour through aromatic spices rather than pure fire is always a highlight. Here, the kitchen delivers rich Indian comfort food where every dish is packed full of spice complexity while keeping the chilli heat delightfully gentle.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Is Shere Panjab worth adding to your itinerary?

If you leave room after the mains, traditional sweet treats offer a refreshing conclusion. Scooping into chilled green pista kulfi and soft, syrup-soaked gulab jamun brought a cool, satisfying finish to a meal focused entirely on big flavour over heat.

Menu highlights

Highlights from Zen’s visit.

At a glance: what we ordered

  • Mango lassi
  • Crispy onion bhaji
  • Loaded non-veg meat platter
  • Creamy mango curry with coconut rice
  • Cheesy garlic naan
  • Pista kulfi
  • Gulab jamun

Sizzling Meat Platters and Crispy Starters

We started with crispy onion bhajis paired with bright green mint chutney and light papadums. Dipping a golden, crunchy piece of bhaji into the fresh mint chutney provided a satisfying crunch to wake up the palate before the heavier dishes arrived.

Beside the bhajis came a loaded eight-piece non-vegetarian meat platter piled high with chicken tikka, succulent chicken malai tikka, tender lamb botti kebab, and seekh kebab. It made for a smoky, flavourful tandoori feast built to share easily across the table.

Velvety Mango Curry and Cheesy Garlic Naan

The main standout for me was the creamy mango curry spooned generously over fluffy coconut rice. The smooth sauce brought a soothing sweetness that balanced beautifully against the savoury dishes without any sharp spicy sting.

Pulling apart a hot piece of cheesy garlic naan proved just as rewarding, with melted cheese running through the garlicky flatbread. Dishes of bhuna lamb, saffron rice, and cool raita rounded out a full table spread of pure comfort.
