Yellow Espresso remains a reliable Ballarat favourite for relaxed outdoor dining, chilled iced drinks, and satisfying egg dishes on a bright morning.
Sitting under a bright yellow umbrella with the morning sun beaming down on Sturt Street, Yellow Espresso is an old favourite of mine whenever I am spending time in central Ballarat. Coming back here always feels familiar, especially on a warm, clear morning.
We pulled up a wooden table outdoors in the sunshine, starting our visit with two glasses of freshly squeezed orange juice complete with metal straws. We clinked our glasses together in a quick cheers before settling in with our cold drinks, including a classic iced latte and a colourful iced strawberry and matcha latte to fuel our morning.
Is Yellow Espresso worth adding to your itinerary?
The only small flaw during our meal was the sourdough crust, which turned out maybe a little too crunchy when cutting into it. Even so, who does not mind a bit of extra texture when the combination of soft runny yolk, salty feta, and spicy chorizo is so well balanced?

A Tale of Two Egg Dishes
When our meals arrived, my plate was stacked with the Eggs Benny. It combines slices of cooked bacon, wilted spinach, and eggs over sourdough, all topped with a rich layer of hollandaise sauce and a scatter of microgreens. While my order was mentioned as scrambled eggs Benny, the dish arrived with poached eggs under smooth hollandaise sauce, making for a traditional classic done right.
My friend ordered the St Kilda Eggs, served on seeded sourdough spread with soft white feta, slices of spicy chorizo, and poached eggs. As soon as a knife cut into the egg, a rich, runny yolk flowed across the warm chorizo and feta, bringing all the bold, savoury flavours together.
